darkness by the track - us running and laughing alone
past beams of the bridge overpass - past brick laiden streets and scarred stone
and wet where the tracks of our shoes
as we walked hand in hand thru the combat zone
the pavement was cracked from the violence
and yet somehow cleansed by the rain
you were the voice from the silence
and love filled the blood in our veins - and we couldn't get enough
hotels near the highway - cigarettes shared in the night
the sky tinted orange from the soot well we talked - as the trucks thundered by
our souls were so naked and bare
as our bodies touched under the street light
and you were the soft flawless image
amidst all the streets broken glass
a creature of warmth and hot passion
we loved without shame to the last - and we couldn't get enough

remember walking by the people
their faces in tense desperation
on a battlefield all of us know
well we cast off that cold isolation

and stared out across city lights
we screamed to the world passing by
